Japanese Watercolour Joy!

Have you ever attempted watercolour painting only to be disappointed by the results and fogged by the rules? Or are you the kind of artist who loves vibrant colours and experimenting? Well I have recently been introduced to Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolour paints and they are brilliant!

I once attended classes to learn watercolour painting but struggled with the wishy washy colours and endless rules. It wasn't the medium for me and I have always championed gouache instead. However, these paints are bright, creamy and slightly opaque They are perfect for breaking those rules such as mixing colours on the brush (something I do a lot of in acrylic and gouache), bleeding colours together and dropping in a heavier mix to make "blooms" on the paper. I am working my way through a large sketchbook of smooth paper to practice different techniques and subject matter until I find my way with this fantastic paint.

Follow my watercolour journey on Instagram @artprimitif and share your watercolour paintings with me. I would love to learn more about your techniques.
